How we add value

We make an impact by influencing policy, supporting partners on the ground and building public commitment.

Understanding of Afghanistan

Our dedicated one-country focus generates diverse knowledge on Afghanistan. We have a nuanced understanding of rural power dynamics and how best to engage local change agents and grassroots organisations in action for development.

A principled pragmatism

We have gained an understanding of how to operationalise rights-based principles in a manner that enables incremental progress while mitigating backlash. We seek locally acceptable solutions to disempowerment without compromising on human rights.

Gender equality

We enable women and girls to access essential services, earn a living and act with agency. We also involve men, including religious leaders and elders, in creating supportive conditions for the rights of women and girls.

Conflict sensitivity

We seek to build trust among stakeholders while avoiding doing harm throughout all our work. We ensure effectiveness and quality of programming across the humanitarian, development and peace nexus.

Climate lens

Our development work includes analysing the impact of climate change on livelihoods, raising environmental awareness and strengthening community resilience to climate change.

Well-positioned as an intermediary

Through our vast experience of implementation, we offer tested methods and skills to local partners. To donors, we offer meaningful dialogue about ground-realities in Afghanistan. Our seasoned awareness helps in identifying opportunities while avoiding pitfalls.

Convening power

Through our networks we connect practice and theory, build knowledge, promote dialogue and advance innovation. We convene actors and build alliances.

Capacity to mobilise

Our 3000 individual members are mobilised in communication work, fundraising and advocacy. They are a key asset for upholding legitimacy, forging opinion and nurturing commitment. Our extensive base of individual donors and philanthropists contribute by own means and via campaigns.
